Kodak signs into patent cross-license agreement with Nokia

Posted on 29 November 2008 by admin

Details are pretty scant at the moment, but Eastman Kodak Company has entered into a mysterious patent license agreement with Nokia. All we’re told is that the deal will enable each outfit “access to the other’s intellectual property portfolio,” and it’ll also provide “significant benefits to both companies, [while being] royalty bearing to Kodak.” Outside of that, we’re left to wonder what’s in store here, so what they hey — we’ll take a stab: a Kodak sensor within the not-yet-conceived N97? Or maybe a Kodak-branded printer-scanner-fax machine in the Tube 2? The intrigue is killing us.

ASUS’ 12-inch bamboo laptop gets a price

Posted on 28 November 2008 by admin

ASUS might have been beaten to the punch by a few other companies and their bamboo-ensconced offerings, but it looks like it’s now getting its first bamboo laptop out the door at long last, and it’s taken the chance to finally get official with a price. Apparently, the first few 12-inch models will go on sale at Taiwan’s IT Month exhibition on Saturday, where they’ll run NT$59,900, or just over $1,800. Unfortunately, it’s not clear exactly which configuration that’ll get you, but, judging from the last word out of ASUS, even the base config seems to be pretty capable.

Naxoo intros new HD package for Swiss customers

Posted on 28 November 2008 by admin

Switzerland-based cable company Naxoo is giving its customers a few new high-def channels to feast on, but they won’t be arriving for free. The new package includes National Geographic HD, BBC HD, HD3 Culture, iConcerts HD, Arte HD and Melody Zen TV for a monthly fee of around $8.40 per month, but taking into account that AT&T is charging $5 for an extra three high-def channels, we guess this is just about par for the course.

T-Mobile G1 coming to Walmart at a slashed price?

Posted on 28 November 2008 by admin

Filed under: Handsets, HTC, T-Mobile, Android

Word on the street is that the top ten Walmarts in each market will be getting hooked up with the T-Mobile G1 on the 24th of November. That in itself isn’t really news — massive boxes have really been ramping up their wireless sales as of late — but here’s where it gets juicy: we’re hearing that they’ll go for just $148.88 on a two-year contract. That’d certainly be consistent with Walmart’s policy of selling stuff at weird prices that are slightly lower than everyone else, and in this particular case, it happens to add up to a solid $31.11 less than what you can do by waltzing into a T-Mobile corporate store. We’re not sure it’s enough of a discount to justify waiting a month — but if late November was your window for picking up a G1 anyway, this just makes the deal that much sweeter.

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]

Lenovo S10 with six-cell battery gets pictured, priced

Posted on 28 November 2008 by admin

Lenovo’s S10 netbook has been relatively well received since its introduction earlier this year, but the battery life has always been a bit of a sticking point, with the included 3-cell battery simply not meeting some folks’ netbook demands. It looks like that situation has now been rectified, in Germany, where a new model equipped with a six-cell battery has just gone on sale for the fairly reasonable price of €329 (or roughly $425). Unfortunately, there’s no indication of a release ’round these parts just yet, but you can check out some more photos of the somewhat bulky addition by hitting up the link below.
